THE BARLEY FIELD
Art Direction and Layout Design
In the fall of 2024, my friend Zander Kim and I decided to start a literary and visual arts magazine aimed at platforming emerging artists and writers, and providing community to new creative talent across disciplines. We put out an open call in Janurary of 2025 and ended up recieving submissions from all over the world, extending the reach of the magazine far beyond what we had initially imagined being a local New York project. Zander was responsible for overseeing prose and poetry, along with the help of volunteer editors, and I was responsible for the art direction and design of the magazine. We named the magazine The Barley Field, and the theme of the inaugural issue is “Down to Earth.” The first issue is 112 pages and features work of 38 artists and writers from around the world.
We celebrated and launch of the first issue in July 2025 in New York with friends and family and the magazine is now available in select bookstores in New York City!
